UPDATE September 23, 2020
Dear skaters, coaches, officials, parents/guardians, clubs & skating schools,
In these uncertain times for our organization, our communities and our world, we want to remind our Skate Canada Newfoundland and Labrador family that we are all in this together.
We know our community is eager to get back on the ice and resume skating activities.
As we enter Alert Level 3 of NL Life with Covid-19, we would like to assure you that we have been working toward our return to skating when permitted under the direction of the Newfoundland and Labrador Chief Medical Officer. Arenas will be permitted to open with restrictions in Newfoundland and Labrador under Alert Level 2 (implementation date to be announced).
Over the past several weeks, Skate Canada Newfoundland and Labrador created a working committee to research, discuss and assemble a Return to Skating Guideline resource for our section. The Return to Skating Committee is comprised of leaders in the areas of programming, coaching, events, communications, healthcare, education, and risk management. This committee conducted a series of virtual meetings to navigate our return to skating and will remain active to the monitor the ever changing environment surrounding COVID-19, Public Health Restrictions and its effects on our sport.
Please note that this document is subject to change based on recommendations made by the Return to Skating Committee in consultation with current Public Health Restrictions. As new information is released and further best practices for facilitating skating are developed, we will continue to provide updates. Due to the fluidity of COVID-19, Skate Canada NL has created this website page as a primary resource for our members and registrants.
