UPDATE # 6 (May 12, 2020)

Dear skaters, coaches, officials, parents/guardians, clubs & skating schools,

As we enter Alert Level 4 of NL Life with Covid-19 we would like to assure you that we are working toward our return to skating when permitted under the direction of the Newfoundland and Labrador Chief Medical Officer. Arenas in our province fall under Alert Level 2 (implementation date to be announced).

Skate Canada Return to Skating Guidelines stipulates “For skating to resume the below restriction must be adhered to:

Skate Canada sections, clubs and skating schools can resume only if permitted by the jurisdiction they are located in. This means that all members and registrants must follow the precautions outlined by their provincial and municipal governments and their local venue operators. In the coming weeks, members of the Skate Canada Newfoundland and Labrador Return to Skating Committee; comprised of leaders in the areas of programming, coaching, events, healthcare, education, and risk management will conduct a series of virtual meetings with Coaches, Clubs and Skating Schools to hear your suggestions & concerns as we work together to navigate our return to skating.

Covid-19 (Coronavirus) Update # 5 (11:20 am, Wednesday, March 17, 2020)

With the health and safety of our employees and members as our top priority we closed the SCNL office as of Friday, March,13, 2020.

Registration Fee Refunds for the 2020  STAR Challenge and Atlantic Canadian Skating Champions are currently being processed. With so many transactions to be completed we ask your patience as we work through these refunds.

SCNL Summer Skating Academy information will be posted at a later date . Please check here and our website www.skatenl.com for announcements when possible to do so.

Please contact your program provider for information surrounding club, school or region program offerings

SCNL AGM is scheduled for September 19, 2020 in St John’s more information will be provided at a later date

Regions, Clubs, Delegates and Coaches are asked to refrain from booking travel to the Skate Canada Ice Summit scheduled for May 27-30, 2020 in Moncton, NB

It’s important that the skating community help flatten the curve! We look forward to seeing everyone back on the ice as soon as possible !

Covid-19 Update #4 (2:23pm, March 13)

Under Skate Canada’s direction and in alignment with the Public Health Agency of Canada guidelines surrounding Mass Gatherings of 250 plus in attendance we regret to inform you that all skating activities as described above must be cancelled until further notice. This will include: Interclubs, Ice Shows, Fun Skates, Banquets etc.. Mass gatherings of 250+ includes: participants, coaches, volunteers, officials, parents, spectators and arena personnel.

We are awaiting further info around regular Skate Canada programming however as of now, activities of less than 250 people gathered may go ahead as usual.

Please consult with your local municipalities for other information/updates which may affect operations as we fully support any direction taken by governments at all levels.

This is a rapidly evolving global situation and we will continue to update as information is available to us.

Covid-19 Update #3 (1:30pm, March 13, 2020)

It is with the health and safety of our members as our priority that we regretfully announce that the 2020 Atlantic Canada Skating Championships scheduled for March 27-29 in Paradise, NL has been CANCELLED due to the evolving COVID-19 pandemic.

This decision was not made lightly, and we know this cancellation will bring with it disappointment to our skaters and coaches who have worked so hard to prepare for this event.

Registration Fees will be fully refunded within the next 10-14 business days.
We appreciate your understanding and patience in this process.

Covid-19 Update #2 (4:15 pm, March 12, 2020)

It is with the health and safety of our members as our priority that we regretfully announce that the 2020 STAR CHALLENGE scheduled for March 14/15 in Corner Brook has been CANCELLED due to the evolving COVID-19 situation.

We know this cancellation will bring with it disappointment to our skaters and coaches who have worked so hard to prepare for this event. We look forward to seeing you all at future competitions!

Thank you to the Silver Blades SC LOC for all your work in preparation for STAR Challenge. We know you would have welcomed the NL Skating Family as always with your exceptional organization and warm hospitality!

STAR Challenge Event Registration Fees will be Fully refunded.

Covid-19 UPDATE # 1 (3pm March 12, 2020)

With health and safety of our members as a priority we are closely monitoring the evolving COVID-19 situation.
SCNL encourages our members to use their discretion with respect to skating activities; however, should any member be under medical orders of self-quarantine, they will not be able to participate in any skating programming or skating events.

Megan

Skate Canada Newfoundland and Labrador Mourns the Passing of Megan Piercey

It is with heavy hearts we share the sad news of the passing of Megan Piercey.

Megan represented the Silver Jets Skating Club and Team Newfoundland and Labrador with grace, poise and determination at the Divisional, Provincial, Sectional and Atlantic Canadian Skating Championships where she skated her way to many medal winning performances. 

Megan will be deeply missed by the members of the Silver Jets Skating Club and the Newfoundland and Labrador skating family. We will remember Megan for her love of skating, exuberant smile, dedication to training and her competitive spirit.  

We extend our most heartfelt condolences to Megan’s family, friends, the members of the Silver Jets Skating Club, coaches and fellow skaters.
